We do everything a bit different here at Swell, we don't just hand out boards and send people out in the surf.
Our main goal is to teach people the essential basics of surfing in a fun and safe way.
Here's some of the stuff that you will learn over 5 days with our learn to surf course: -Surf etiquette.
-About types of waves suitable for surfing.
-Identifying surfing hazards.
-Whether you are a natural or goofy footer.
-Equipment essentials.
-Surf warm up / stretching.
-Positioning on the board.
-Paddling technique.
-How to catch a wave.
-How to balance when on the board.
When good progress is made and condtions are good for it, we can also teach:
-How to ride smaller boards
-How to make turns.
-How to take off on / and ride the unbroken waves.
We teach the above surf essentials with the help of video instruction, land based simulation and of course in the water.
We have a large selection of different boards, safe, soft tops in various different sizes and hard top boards in different sizes for the more 'advanced' beginners.

-Early morning wake up call.
-Quick cup of coffee or tea.
-Get to the beach at 7am.
-Sort out the equipment.
-Warm up / stretching.
-Refresher on what was taught the day before.
-Practise the techniques on land.
-Going into the water with a surf instructor assistant, the head surf coach will remain in shallow water to provide feedback and oversee the safety aspects.
-Practice surfing for 45 minutes
-A 15 minute break to drink water.
-If necessary some more tips/pointers/tuition will be given on land
-Back in the water for another 45 minutes of learning the art of riding waves.
After 1.5 - 2 hours at the surf beach we go back to Swell for a well deserved freshly cooked breakfast.
In the afternoon most people's arms and shoulders are like noodles, so people tend to relax in our camp, go into town, to the beach etc. There are always surf video's available to learn more from the pro's.
If during your stay you have any questions about specific aspects of surfing / surf travel / equipment etc. you are always free to consult the knowledge of the in-house surf instructors and mangement.
